Guatemala City

             Guatemala City (Ciudad de Guatemala, La Nueva Guatemala de la Asunción), is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Guatemala and Central America. It had a population of 1,075,000 as of 2009. It is also the capital city of the local Municipio de Guatemala, and Guatemala Department. The city is located in a mountain valley called Valle de la Ermita in the south central part of the country. 
              The main landmarks of Guatemala City are: Banco Industrial, Tikal Futura, Plaza Mayor de la Constitucion, Plaza España, Museos de Guatemala, Centro Histórico, Paseo de la Sexta, Palacio Nacional de la Cultura (National Palace of Culture), Catedral Primada Metropolitana de Santiago (Cathedral of Guatemala City), Mercado Central (central market), Biblioteca Nacional (national library), Teatro Abril, Centro Cultural Miguel Ángel Asturias (Teatro Nacional), Mapa en Relieve, Cuatro Grados Norte, Torre del Reformador (Tower of the Reformer), Parque de la Industria, El Obelisco (Monumento a los Próceres de la Independencia), Museo Ixchel del Traje Indígena (Mayan dress museum), Museo Popol Vuh, Plaza Fontabella, Museo Nacional de Arqueología y Etnología (National Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology), Antiguo Aqueducto (Remains of the Historical Aqueduct).
