Baku

           Baku (Bakı) is the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan, as well as the largest city on the Caspian Sea and of the Caucasus region. It is located on the southern shore of the Absheron Peninsula (Abşeron yarımadası), which projects into the Caspian Sea. The name Baku is widely believed to be derived from the old Persian names of the city باد-کوبه Bād-kube, meaning "Wind-pounded city". The city consists of two principal parts: the downtown and the old Inner City ( İçəri Şəhər). Baku's urban population in 2010 was 2,064,900.
           The city's landmarks are Bibi-Heybat Mosque (Bibiheybət məscidi), SOCAR Tower, Flame Towers (Alov qüllələri), Palace of the Shirvanshahs (Şirvanşahlar sarayı), Juma Mosque (Cümə məscidi), the Walled City of Baku, Baku Boulevard (Dənizkənarı Milli Park), Fountains Square (Fəvvarələr meydanı), National Assembly of Azerbaijan (Azərbaycan Respublikasının Milli Məclisi), National Flag Square (Dövlət Bayrağı Meydanı), State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre (Axundov adına Azərbaycan Dövlət Akademik Opera və Balet Teatrı), Baku Jazz Center, Nizami Street (Nizami küçəsi).
