The Guaviare is considered the border between the Llanos and the Amazon Rainforest. The original inhabitants of the basin of Guaviare, the following indian tribes: Guayabero Tinigua, Sikuani, Nukak, Piapoco and Puinave. A modern bridge crosses Guaviare River near San Jose del Guaviare, capital of the department of Guaviare.
