Hirundinidae are divided in: Psalidoprocne, Pseudhirundo, Cheramoeca, Phedina, Riparia, Tachycineta, Progne, Notiochelidon, Haplochelidon, Atticora, Neochelidon, Stelgidopteryx, Alopochelidon, Hirundo, Ptyonoprogne, Delichon, Cecropis, Petrochelidon. The most common species are tree swallow and barn swallow. Swallows are tolerated by humans because of their beneficial role as insect-eaters, and some species have readily adapted to nesting in and around human habitation.
